Carmelo Zagami – Principal Solicitor & Notary Public
I am the Principal Solicitor of Zagami Legal, providing practical, considered and results-focused legal advice to individuals, families and businesses across a broad range of legal matters.
I graduated from Murdoch University with a Juris Doctor in 2010 and completed my Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice at the College of Law in 2011. I was admitted as a solicitor of the Supreme Court of Western Australia on 4 April 2011 and am also admitted to practise in the High Court of Australia.
I have also served as a Justice of the Peace since being appointed on 24 August 1999.
On 1 September 2023, I was appointed as a General Public Notary (Notary Public) for the State of Western Australia. In that capacity, I provide notarial services for documents intended for use both within Australia and internationally, including the witnessing and authentication of documents, administration of oaths and other notarial acts required for overseas legal and administrative purposes.
Experience and Approach
My legal practice encompasses a diverse range of matters, and I have developed substantial experience advising clients in areas including family law, wills and estates, probate and estate administration, property and commercial disputes, leasing, civil litigation and other private client matters.
I take a practical and commercially sensible approach to legal problems. My focus is on understanding the client’s circumstances and objectives from the outset, identifying the issues that genuinely matter, and providing clear advice directed towards achieving an effective and proportionate outcome.
Where a matter can be resolved without unnecessary litigation, I seek to achieve that result. Where court proceedings are necessary, I provide clients with clear and realistic advice about the available options, risks and likely costs so that informed decisions can be made at each stage.
Zagami Legal is deliberately operated as a personalised legal practice. Clients deal directly with me throughout their matter, allowing me to maintain a detailed understanding of their circumstances and provide continuity from the initial consultation through to resolution.
Professional Background
Before entering legal practice, I gained experience across several industries and areas of government, including working:
- in local government as an Environmental Health Officer;
- as a licensed real estate sales representative;
- within a property settlement agency;
- as a paralegal in banking and finance; and
- with the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions in its Confiscations team.
This varied professional background has given me a practical understanding of property, commercial transactions, government processes and dispute resolution which continues to inform the way I approach legal matters today.
Italian Language and Italian Legal Matters
I am proficient in the Italian language, both spoken and written, and regularly assist clients where Australian and Italian legal or administrative matters intersect.
In particular, I assist clients with the preparation and execution of Power of Attorney (Procura) and other documents required for use in Italy, including documents relating to Italian property, deceased estates and inheritance matters.
My ability to communicate directly in Italian can also assist clients and their families in understanding documentation and liaising with lawyers, notaries and other professionals in Italy.
My objective is straightforward: to provide clients with clear advice, personal service and practical legal solutions, while ensuring they understand both their legal position and the options available to them.
